Het Elfenkind geeft een beeld van de belevingswereld van autistisch gestoorde mensen en het appèl dat zij van daar uit doen op ouders / familie en hulpverleners. De voorstelling is een combinatie van film en toneel, van de buiten- en de eigen wereld. Daar tussenin speelt zich een eigenaardig sprookje af.

De eerste productie van Arno Setz was een theater/filmvoorstelling over autisme. In de voorstelling speelde hij iemand met autisme die gespecialiseerd is in...autisme. In de voorstelling ontwikkelt zich een merkwaardig verhaal waarbij het hoofdpersonage zich regelmatig vervreemd van het publiek maar daarna weer imponeert met zijn kennis. Zonder het door te hebben trapte het publiek in een grote valkuil bij mensen met autisme: een grote kennis op een specifiek gebied maar anderzijds de sociale codes niet herkennen waardoor vervreemding ontstaat. Pas op het eind wordt het duidelijk voor het publiek dat het hoofdpersonage zelf te maken heeft met autisme. Het publiek blijkt slechts een fantasie van het hoofdpersonage als hij wordt opgehaald door een hulpverlener en uiteindeljk opgaat in de film.

Het Elfenkind provides an image of the world of autistic disturbed people and the appeal they make to parents/family and care providers from there. The performance is a combination of film and theatre, of the outside world and the own world. In between, a strange fairy tale plays out.

Arno Setz's first production was a theatre/film performance about autism. In the show he played someone with autism who specialized in...autism. In the performance, a curious story develops in which the main character regularly alienates himself from the audience, but then impresses again with his knowledge. Without realizing it, the public fell into a major trap with people with autism: a great knowledge in a specific field, but on the other hand not recognizing the social codes that lead to alienation. Only at the end does it become clear to the audience that the main character has to deal with autism. The audience turns out to be just a fantasy of the main character when he is picked up by an aid worker and is eventually absorbed in the film.
